Do Essential Oils Really Work?

Do Essential Oils Really WorkOk, so you’ve heard of essential oils, maybe from a friend, co-worker, or family member. But do essential oils really work to promote a healthy mind, body and spirit? Or are they just the latest fad or shortcut to staying healthy, similar to a fad diet or pill you take to lose weight? Perhaps to answer the question, do essential oils really work, we need to discuss briefly what they are.

What Are Essential Oils?

I have learned that essential oils are the “essence” of a plant that promotes it’s overall health. They are tiny sacs of concentrated oil in plant material. This precious oil is extracted through a distillation process. The essential oil can then be used in your daily life to help support the immune system, combat stress, and support a healthy body. These oils are often drawn from the flowers, as in lavender, but in some plants that “essence” come from the roots, leaves, rhizomes, resin, or other parts of the plant.

Now, to answer the question, do they really work. I have to say I was a skeptic at first. But I have stopped a bug bite from itching immediately with one drop of lavender dabbed on the bite. I saw a co-worker coughing non-stop only to have it subside with a couple drops of black spruce essential oil. And after a few weeks of using Breathe, a blend of oils by Kokokahn, I saw my stepdad go from having chronic allergies to them being almost non existent. He feels so much better!

Now that you may be willing to give essential oils a try, the question is where to find them. How do you find high quality essential oil companies that offer real therapeutic support? Do you have to spend a lot of money to get the benefit of supporting your health through essential oils?
In my next blog, I will discuss tips and answers to help with these questions.
