Argan Oil Benefits

Argan oil comes from the Argania spinosa tree and only grows in southwestern Morocco.  It is a very expensive oil due to the amount of fruit required to obtain the oil and the labor involved.  To obtain 1 liter (about 33 ounces) of argan oil it takes the harvest of 5 trees and approximately 20 hours of labor!  The oil comes from 3 seeds inside each fruit.  These seeds are similar in shape to almonds and are traditionally hand crushed.

Argan oil is high in vitamin E, unsaturated fatty acids, and phytosterols.  It is a good free radical scavenger and antioxidant.  Phytosterols provide anti-inflammatory and anti-irritant properties in argan oil.
